The first-generation Concertino are two-way bookshelf speakers, handcrafted with a level of care that today feels almost nostalgic. Entirely made in Italy, they combine refined design with premium materials such as solid national walnut and leather—an aesthetic that blends elegance with a sense of homely warmth. These speakers come from a time when Sonus Faber, under the passionate direction of Franco Serblin, was creating products that were both musical instruments and objects of art.
From the very first listen, they impress with their surprisingly extended low-frequency response, quite uncommon for speakers of such compact size. The bass is not only present but also articulate, deep, and well-controlled. At the opposite end of the spectrum, the high-frequency response stands out for its clarity, transparency, and fatigue-free listening, offering a tonal balance that conveys music with naturalness and coherence.
Even in relatively small listening rooms, they find their place with ease—provided that some distance from the rear and side walls is maintained to achieve the best sonic performance. The front-facing reflex port, moreover, helps accommodate them in tighter spaces without causing unwanted bass reinforcement.
The Concertino are not speakers that require high power to perform at their best. In fact, overly powerful amplifiers might compromise the delicacy that characterizes them. They prefer refined amplification capable of enhancing their transparency and detail. In this sense, the choice of amplifier and source is essential to fully unlock the potential of a design that, while not in the high-end price range, can easily rival much more expensive models.
To this day, the first-generation Concertino remain highly sought after by enthusiasts. This version, featuring bi-wiring capability and original jumpers, is a testament to the care with which they have been preserved over time.
Beautiful, musical, Italian: a modern classic that continues to captivate anyone fortunate enough to hear them.
