The ProAc Response One SC represents a radical evolution of the renowned Response One S, maintaining its design philosophy while offering a higher level of refinement. It is a compact two-way loudspeaker with extremely small dimensions—so much so that ProAc itself describes it as a “miniature” speaker. The construction is meticulous in every detail, with a fine wood veneer that conveys an impression of elegance and artisanal quality.

The Response One SC features a woofer with a copper magnet and a fixed phase plug, along with a redesigned crossover that provides greater tonal coherence and more precise response. True to ProAc tradition, the technical details are not disclosed in depth, as designer Stewart Tyler prefers to let performance speak for itself rather than resorting to unnecessary technical jargon. The tweeters are mirror-imaged and should be positioned with the domes facing inward for optimal stereo imaging. The rear connections are of excellent quality, made entirely of rhodium, allowing for either single wiring or bi-wiring, the latter bringing out the full sonic potential of the speaker.

As with all ProAc models, the Response One SC shows exemplary attention to construction and assembly. Properly tightening the drivers to the front baffle can further refine the acoustic performance, provided it is done carefully. The interaction with the listening environment is crucial: the speaker requires rigid, stable stands, ideally between twenty-four and twenty-eight inches high, to ensure an optimal balance between bass depth and soundstage precision. Placed at some distance from the rear wall, it reaches its full expression in terms of openness, airiness, and naturalness.

Contrary to popular belief, this small monitor is not limited to compact rooms. Its ability to fill a space with a full, coherent, and detailed sound makes it suitable even for larger environments, as long as it is properly matched with the amplifier and listening position. The result is a rare balance of musicality, precision, and transparency—qualities that few loudspeakers combine with such grace.

The Response One SC thus retains the magic that made the original model a reference point, enriching it with a sonic maturity that places it in a higher category.
