The PMC twenty5.22 is a two-way standmount loudspeaker and the largest standmount model in the twenty5 range. The design combines a compact cabinet with an Advanced Transmission Line (ATL) loading system, a transmission line that is particularly long in relation to the cabinet volume, and the Laminair vent, developed to optimize airflow at the end of the line.

ATL technology uses the energy generated by the low-frequency driver differently from conventional bass-reflex or sealed-box designs, helping to achieve an extended and controlled low-frequency response. The Laminair vent incorporates a series of vertical elements at the mouth of the transmission line, reducing turbulence and airflow resistance. The system derives from studies into aerodynamics applied to Formula 1 and was originally developed for PMC’s larger professional monitors.

The 165 mm mid/bass driver uses a g-weave woven glass-fibre cone, introduced in this series to provide greater rigidity and allow the system to operate at higher sound pressure levels. The driver also features an inverted central dust cap, a long-throw voice coil and a suspension designed to control cone excursion. Compared with the previous models in the twenty series, the new driver is capable of handling higher sound pressure levels.

For high frequencies, the loudspeaker uses a tweeter derived from that of the twenty series, combined with a perforated metal grille designed to promote even dispersion. The crossover is built on a glass-fibre board with heavy-gauge copper tracks and operates at a crossover frequency of 1.8 kHz. The components are housed behind a non-magnetic stainless-steel rear panel, which features a single pair of rhodium-plated copper binding posts. The single-wiring configuration helps to keep the signal path more direct.

The cabinet features dimensions and a structure optimized to minimize unwanted resonances, with internal bracing and the characteristic backward-leaning shape of the series. The combination of the new driver, ATL transmission line and Laminair vent is designed to provide deeper and more controlled low-frequency reproduction while maintaining the ability to follow dynamic variations and the finest details in recordings.

The twenty5.22 can be paired with PMC’s dedicated stands, which feature a two-column structure and upper and lower plates made from a combination of steel and damping material, designed to reduce stand resonances.
