The Opera Mezza v2 is the most compact speaker in Opera Loudspeakers’ Classica line, a two-way bookshelf with a rear bass-reflex port designed to deliver impressive performance even in areas where many compact speakers struggle: vocal range and the solidity of the musical message. The cabinet, compact yet extremely rigid, is engineered to minimize coloration from vibrations or internal reflections, featuring a 4 cm thick front panel that provides mechanical stability and reduces energy dispersion. The internal volume of around eight liters is carefully designed to control standing waves, preserving transparency, intelligibility, and precision of the soundstage, while the rear reflex port, though small, adds bass body without turning the speaker into a “boom box,” requiring only a minimum distance from the wall for optimal performance.

At the heart of the Mezza v2 is a specially developed Scan-Speak midwoofer with a 150 mm black anodized aluminum cone, a generous voice coil, and linear excursion engineered to ensure control, speed, and precision even at low frequencies. The aluminum provides low moving mass, high rigidity, and reduced high-frequency resonances, improving tonal clarity and transient response. The 26 mm soft dome Scan-Speak tweeter has been modified with a reinforced magnetic structure for optimal control in the crossover region with the midrange, delivering a natural, detailed, and fast high register capable of reproducing attack, decay, and microdynamics without listener fatigue.

The design philosophy prioritizes overall balance: instead of pushing the reflex tuning to extreme values for impressive specifications on paper, the Mezza v2 achieves a careful balance of bass extension and control, ensuring linearity, tonal coherence, and reliability in real listening environments with furniture and walls affecting performance. The frequency response is optimized to perform well in domestic rooms, maintaining naturalness in vocals and a general balance that makes this speaker a reference among compact bookshelves.

The crossover, simple in structure but meticulously engineered, incorporates high-quality components and optimized phase performance. Its design considers the response of each driver and their alignment, both on- and off-axis, ensuring a wide, stable soundstage with precise instrument placement even in untreated rooms. Air-wound inductors and carefully selected damping resistors complete the system, avoiding unwanted saturation and providing a coherent, smooth, detailed, and never artificial voice.

The Opera Mezza v2 is therefore a compact speaker that can disappear into a room, leaving only the music, offering remarkable naturalness, balance, and precision in a bookshelf format that is easy to position, capable of refined delicacy at low volumes and credibility even when the dynamics increase.
