The EgglestonWorks Isabel presents itself as a small masterpiece of engineering and design, capable of impressing with its precision, musicality, and build quality. The cabinet is constructed from two layers of 5/8” MDF glued together and separated by a vibration-damping material similar to that used in the flooring of European trains. The front, rear, and beveled top surfaces are finished with a glossy resin that requires sixteen sanding and polishing steps to achieve the final finish. On the sides are the characteristic Italian granite panels by EgglestonWorks, 1/2” thick, completing a heavy, stable, and acoustically inert enclosure, with compact dimensions of 24 cm width, 33 cm depth, and 38 cm height, weighing approximately 25 kg.

The driver system combines a 1” cloth dome tweeter with an aperiodic damping chamber and a vent on the magnet pole, a high-end component derived from the Dynaudio Esotar series and among the most expensive tweeters available on the market, with a 6” Morel polypropylene double-magnet woofer with a 3” voice coil, all loaded in a single aperiodic vented cabinet. The crossover is set at 3.5 kHz, and all internal components, from Transparent wiring to Hovland Musicaps capacitors and Vishay resistors, are carefully selected to ensure accuracy, consistency, and transparency in sound reproduction. Claimed efficiency is 87 dB with a nominal impedance of 8 ohms and a minimum of 6.3 ohms, while the frequency response extends from -3 dB at 60 Hz up to beyond 24 kHz.

The grille, although mounted on a simple steel frame attached with hidden magnets, is made from an extremely transparent material, similar to a fine fabric, which has virtually no effect on the high frequencies, making it one of the most acoustically transparent grilles available. The result is a speaker capable of a wide, dynamic, and full-bodied presentation: bass reaches down to 40 Hz even in concrete rooms, sounding deep, fast, well-defined, and never overbearing, while the midrange is handled with great balance. Male and female voices maintain presence and naturalness, without excessive emphasis or unwanted thinness, thanks also to impeccable driver integration and the lack of a crossover between the midrange and woofer.
