YAMAHA NX-70A

The Yamaha NX-70A is a wireless Hi-Fi speaker system designed to combine stereo playback, network streaming and TV connectivity in a single solution. The configuration consists of separate left and right speakers that communicate with each other wirelessly, eliminating the need for a connection cable between the two units and providing greater flexibility when positioning them in the listening environment. The system also integrates amplification and loudspeakers according to a design specifically developed by Yamaha.

The speaker system employs Harmonious Diaphragm™ technology across all acoustic drivers to maintain consistent tonal characteristics throughout the frequency range. The diaphragm combines PBO ZYLON™ fibre, a material also used by Yamaha in its reference loudspeakers, with spruce wood, traditionally used for the soundboards of grand pianos. This construction is designed to provide a uniform response from the low frequencies through the midrange and treble while preserving the tonal characteristics of voices and instruments.

The system also incorporates Synergistic Drive™ technology, which directly links the amplification stage to the acoustic driver. Controlling the current flow between the amplifier and speaker helps reduce distortion associated with the interaction between separate components and provides more precise control over driver behaviour. The amplifier and loudspeaker are therefore designed and optimized as an integrated system.

The YPAO™ (Yamaha Parametric Room Acoustic Optimizer) room calibration system allows playback to be adapted to the characteristics of the listening environment. Using a dedicated microphone, the system measures the acoustic conditions of the room and adjusts the playback parameters accordingly. YPAO R.S.C. (Reflected Sound Control) specifically manages early reflections that can affect stereo imaging, while parametric equalization helps optimize tonal balance according to speaker placement.

The cabinet is designed with particular attention to rigidity and vibration control. The rounded surfaces reduce the presence of parallel internal surfaces and help limit the formation of standing waves, while the rigid structure minimizes unwanted vibrations. A 5 mm-thick aluminium plate is integrated into the top of the cabinet and securely fastened with screws, further increasing its structural rigidity.

Network connectivity is provided by the MusicCast platform, which allows the system to be controlled through the dedicated app and integrated into a Yamaha multiroom system. The system can reproduce content from streaming services, mobile devices and network music libraries, while also allowing music and TV audio to be distributed to other MusicCast-compatible devices.

The NX-70A also supports AirPlay 2 and Google Cast™, allowing content to be streamed from compatible devices and applications. Spotify Connect and TIDAL Connect are also supported, enabling direct playback from the respective services without necessarily using the mobile device as the audio source. Roon Ready compatibility allows the system to be integrated into a Roon music library and access content organized through the platform.

For TV use, the NX-70A features HDMI eARC/ARC and supports CEC control. The HDMI connection allows TV audio to be transferred to the system while functions such as power and volume can be controlled using the TV remote, reducing the number of connections required.

The wireless connection between the left and right speakers eliminates the signal cable between the two units, allowing them to be positioned more freely than in a conventional stereo system. Everyday operation can be managed via the app and remote control, while the front-panel display provides key information about the system status and selected source.

Overall, the Yamaha NX-70A combines the functions of an active Hi-Fi stereo speaker system, a network streaming system and a TV audio solution in a compact configuration, integrating amplification, YPAO room calibration, wireless connection between the speakers, MusicCast and a wide range of streaming protocols and services.
