The VPI HR-X is a reference turntable that embodies the decades of experience of Harry Weisfeld and VPI engineering. Its platform features an elegant three-layer sandwich of acrylic-aluminum-acrylic, finished in black piano lacquer, designed to damp vibrations and provide maximum stability for both platter and tonearm. The turntable rests on four steel towers containing air-filled cushions, supported by truncated pyramid feet, further isolating the platform from external vibrations. The motor, housed in a massive lateral monolith, contains two synchronous drives and a flywheel system that provides high rotational inertia without overloading the main bearing, optimizing stability and silence.

The platter is made of semi-transparent satin acrylic and includes a metal ring with two rubber O-rings, which, together with the clamp, level the record. The inverted spindle is lubricated and equipped with a large steel ball, ensuring smooth and precise rotation. The unipivot tonearm guarantees consistency and precision across different units and features a nearly 13-inch long arm to minimize tracking error. VTA is adjustable via a numbered collar, allowing easy mounting of different arms and cartridges. Silver Nordost Valhalla wiring minimizes electrical resistance and does not interfere with the movement of the arm/cartridge assembly.

The external SDS power supply allows speed adjustment between 33 and 45 RPM and fine-tuning using the included strobe. Thanks to the air suspension system and the unipivot arm without hinges, the HR-X requires minimal maintenance while providing exceptional stability and longevity. The turntable’s periphery includes a central and peripheral clamp, which, combined with the dual 24-pole flywheel motor, ensures full record control and reduces vibrations.

Sonically, the HR-X reproduces music naturally and transparently, without highlighting recording flaws. Its sound is neutral, dynamic, and detailed, with a deep, silent, and three-dimensional background that conveys the spatiality and depth of the performance.
