Rega Planar 10 is a High End turntable designed to deliver the highest level of precision in analogue playback, incorporating advanced technical solutions developed from the experience gained with the reference Rega Naiad model. Built using advanced materials and aerospace-derived engineering technologies, it represents one of the most refined expressions of Rega’s design philosophy, focused on reducing mass, increasing structural rigidity and controlling vibrations.

The Planar 10 project was developed with the aim of bringing the performance of the prestigious Naiad closer to a more accessible product, without compromising construction quality. Every element of the turntable is engineered to improve mechanical precision and maximise the extraction of musical information from the vinyl groove. Innovations introduced in the central bearing, sub-platter, motor and drive belt contribute to improved rotational stability and even more accurate sound reproduction.

The ultra-lightweight plinth is one of the defining features of the Planar 10. The structure uses a Tancast 8 polyurethane foam core, a material originally developed for aerospace applications, sandwiched between two extremely thin layers of HPL (High Pressure Laminate). This combination creates an exceptionally rigid structure that is significantly lighter than previous Rega models, reducing overall mass while improving resistance to deformation.

The Double Brace Technology (DB Technology) applied to the chassis uses reinforcement elements positioned only where maximum rigidity is required, specifically between the tonearm mounting point and the main bearing. The ceramic top brace and phenolic resin bottom brace form an extremely solid structure that limits energy absorption and prevents unwanted resonances. This solution allows the tonearm and cartridge to operate in optimal conditions, reading every detail engraved in the record groove with greater accuracy.

The Planar 10 is equipped with the RB3000 tonearm, Rega’s flagship tonearm model, developed to provide maximum mechanical precision and absolute control over movement. The tonearm construction uses highly rigid materials and minimises mechanical joints, eliminating the need for adhesives thanks to extremely tight manufacturing tolerances. Each component is manufactured and assembled with micrometre precision to ensure a structure free from unwanted play.

The RB3000 tonearm’s vertical bearing assembly uses a preloaded zero-tolerance system, adjusted with precision below one thousandth of a millimetre. This configuration enables extremely smooth, friction-free movement, allowing the cartridge to accurately follow the smallest variations in the vinyl groove. The redesigned aluminium tonearm tube features optimised mass distribution, increased structural rigidity and reduced internal stresses, further contributing to the reduction of vibrations and resonances.

The Planar 10’s central bearing assembly has been completely redesigned to provide greater rigidity and lower mass. The machined-from-solid aluminium sub-platter and hardened tool-steel spindle rotate within a custom-made brass housing, designed to improve mechanical integrity and reduce the transfer of unwanted energy into the turntable structure.

The ceramic platter with flywheel effect is manufactured using compressed ceramic oxide powder, fired and then diamond-cut to achieve an extremely precise and perfectly flat surface. The platter construction has been further refined to optimise coupling with the sub-platter and ensure more stable and uniform rotation, which is essential for accurate musical detail retrieval.

The drive system uses a latest-generation 24V synchronous motor designed to minimise vibration and mechanical noise. The motor is mounted from below using a technique derived from the Rega Naiad, eliminating stress on the motor housing while keeping the drive pulley perfectly stable. This solution improves speed accuracy, increases vibration isolation and ensures more effective transmission of rotation to the platter.

The Planar 10 motor is individually tuned and paired with its dedicated P10 electronic power supply to optimise vibration control and operational stability. The power supply represents one of Rega’s most advanced developments, managing the turntable’s rotational speed with exceptional precision and ensuring consistent performance over time.

The drive system uses the new EBLT belts, developed by Rega through years of research into elastomer materials. The specially formulated rubber compound and optimised manufacturing process provide greater consistency in elastic properties, improving speed accuracy and further reducing unwanted variations during rotation.

The Rega Planar 10 can be paired with the Apheta 3 MC cartridge, specifically developed to complement the turntable’s performance. Featuring a Fine Line diamond profile, this cartridge is designed to extract a greater amount of musical information from the vinyl groove, offering an exceptionally high level of accuracy and transparency. The combination of Planar 10 and Apheta 3 represents a complete solution for those seeking the highest level of precision in analogue playback.
