The Pro-Ject Xtension 9 S-Shape is a belt-drive turntable developed from Pro-Ject Audio Systems' extensive experience in the design of analogue sources. The design combines a high-mass construction with mechanical isolation solutions and a compact footprint, making it suitable for installation in standard audio racks.

The chassis is made of MDF filled with metal granulate, a solution that increases the overall mass and helps reduce structural resonances. The main plinth is decoupled from the base by means of magnetic feet, while the overall mass of approximately 16 kg contributes to system stability during playback.

The platter features a precision-balanced sandwich construction and incorporates thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) elements for vibration control. Rotation is provided by an inverted ceramic ball bearing with magnetic support, designed to reduce friction and the transmission of vibrations to the platter.

The belt-drive system features electronic speed control and allows selection of 33 and 45 rpm. The heavy record clamp helps maintain stable coupling between the vinyl record and the platter during playback.

The tonearm is a 9-inch aluminium S-shaped design with inverted ABEC 7 bearings. The removable headshell facilitates cartridge replacement and allows the use of different configurations, including MM and MC cartridges, depending on the system and listening requirements.

The tonearm connection can be configured with a 5-pin/RCA unbalanced cable or, upon request, with a high-quality 5-pin/XLR balanced connection. The latter solution can be used with a phono stage equipped with balanced inputs, helping to reduce the influence of electromagnetic interference during signal transmission. For a truly balanced connection, both the source and receiving device must be equipped with balanced connections.
