The Acoustic Solid Solid Machine turntable stands out as a high-quality design, engineered and manufactured in Germany with an approach that prioritizes solidity, precision, and functional simplicity. It clearly belongs to the philosophy of high-mass, rigid-plinth turntables, featuring a straightforward yet extremely refined construction in which every component is machined from massive blocks of proprietary aluminium and lead alloy using CNC processes, carefully polished and assembled into a compact yet imposing structure weighing approximately 30 kg. The platter, a central element of the design, weighs 15 kg and plays a crucial role in rotational stability and sonic performance, while adjustable feet secured by robust bolts allow for precise leveling.
The drive system employs a separate synchronous motor housed in an elegant independent pod and connected via a belt, a solution that reduces mechanical interference and keeps the design clean and minimal. Power is supplied through an external unit, avoiding unnecessary complexity. A distinctive feature of this model is its bearing system, engineered to ensure an extremely precise coupling between spindle and housing, with the aim of minimizing tolerances and unwanted vibrations, contributing to smooth and controlled rotation. In later versions, the use of a bronze-lined sleeve further improves reliability and stability even under changing environmental conditions, ensuring consistent long-term performance.
Operation proves remarkably simple and intuitive: setup is immediate and running stability is excellent, with rotational speed remaining precise without frequent adjustments. The open and modular structure allows the installation of up to three tonearms simultaneously, offering great flexibility and making the turntable suitable for fully customized configurations regardless of arm size, weight, or type. Several mats are supplied, including a genuine leather version and a 5 mm acrylic option, designed to optimize the interface between record and platter and help control resonances.
From a sonic perspective, the Solid Machine delivers a precise, clean, and neutral reproduction, enhancing the characteristics of the installed components without imposing a strong sonic signature of its own. The high mass and rigid construction help suppress vibrations and resonances, resulting in a controlled and highly detailed sound. Its build quality, operational reliability, and ease of use make it an especially attractive choice both for high-end domestic listening and as a reference platform for testing and comparing different tonearms and cartridges, confirming its status as a highly versatile turntable appreciated by demanding audiophiles.
