VOLUMIO PRIMO V3

Network streamer with an integrated DAC designed for the management and playback of high-resolution digital music sources. The device uses an ESS Sabre ES9039Q2M converter based on the Hyperstream IV architecture, developed to reduce distortion, minimize sensitivity to clock jitter and limit digital noise while maintaining a wide dynamic range.

The conversion section provides eight selectable DAC filters, with Minimum Phase set as the default configuration. The different filters allow the behavior of the digital signal conversion to be adjusted, while the Non-Over Sampling (NOS) mode, activated via a switch, provides a conversion path without oversampling, preserving the signal in its original form.

Clock management uses a high-precision reference designed to limit jitter during signal processing. The Primo V3 also incorporates an internal linear power supply stage that reduces high-frequency noise on the DC rails. The component layout is designed to maintain short electrical paths and limit voltage losses and interference.

Network connectivity includes dual-band Wi-Fi according to the 802.11a/b/g/n/ac standards and a Gigabit Ethernet interface. The antennas are integrated inside the chassis, eliminating external elements while maintaining wireless connectivity without altering the device's overall structure. The system can access compatible streaming services, including Roon, Tidal and Qobuz, as well as music libraries available on the local network.

The hardware platform uses a 1.5 GHz Quad-Core A72 ARM processor, supported by 2 GB of DDR4 RAM and 16 GB of eMMC storage. This configuration provides the resources required for network communication, music library management and real-time audio content processing.

The Primo V3 supports high-resolution audio files, including FLAC and WAV, with signals up to PCM 384 kHz/32-bit through the network input. It can therefore manage content from streaming services and local music libraries while preserving the resolution of the original material, depending on the format used.

The device can also operate as a digital transport for an external DAC via its USB output. In this mode, it can transmit signals up to PCM 1536 kHz/32-bit and DSD1024, extending the Primo V3's use to systems in which digital-to-analog conversion is handled by an external device.

The analog section is designed to facilitate integration with amplifiers and active loudspeakers featuring different sensitivity levels. The unbalanced RCA output provides eight selectable voltage levels between 0.5 and 3.15 Vrms, allowing the signal level to be adapted to the system and providing a volume range better suited to the configuration in use.

The balanced XLR output uses differential signal transmission to reduce the influence of interference and electrical noise along the connection. This output also provides adjustable levels between 1.0 and 6.3 Vrms, allowing connection to different types of amplifiers.

The Primo V3 also features a 12 V trigger output that allows the power-on sequence of other compatible system components to be synchronized. The combination of network streamer, integrated DAC, adjustable-level analog outputs and USB transport functionality allows the device to be used in different digital system configurations, either with its internal conversion stage or with an external DAC.
