The Cocktail Audio X50D is an extremely versatile device that combines the functions of a digital transport, music server, and network streamer in a single solution. It natively supports the main high-resolution audio formats, including DSD, PCM, DXD, and MQA, ensuring direct playback without conversions that could compromise sound quality. The X50D stands out for its two additional digital inputs, one coaxial and one optical, enabling connection to external sources such as transports, DAT, or MiniDisc, and allowing digital recording up to 24bit/192kHz in Studio Master quality. Hard drive management is simplified thanks to the ability to configure RAID directly from the user interface, without opening the device. Storage capacity can reach up to 12TB through the use of two drives, providing ample space for high-resolution music libraries.
At its core, the X50D is powered by a Dual Core ARM Cortex A9 1GHz processor, supported by 1GB DDR memory and 8GB NAND Flash memory, ensuring fast and stable data processing even during demanding operations such as backups and file transfers. The 24x SuperDrive CD mechanism with 1MB buffer and Slot-In loading, combined with Silent Play technology, ensures highly precise disc playback with minimal mechanical noise. The CD ripping function extracts tracks in bit-perfect mode, preserving original quality, while Gracenote service automatically downloads metadata and artwork for organizing the collection by album, artist, genre, and year.
Audio format support is comprehensive and versatile: in addition to PCM, MQA, DXD, and DSD files, the unit handles WAV, FLAC, ALAC, AIFF, MP3, WMA, AAC, and OGG Vorbis, as well as PLS and M3U playlists. Digital connectivity includes USB Audio Class 2.0 up to 32bit/384kHz, HDMI and RJ-45 for native DSD, as well as Toslink, coaxial, AES/EBU, and I²S, ensuring compatibility with virtually any DAC. A BNC Word Clock function allows synchronization with external devices, while the fanless design and SSD usage ensure absolute silence and maximum reliability.
The graphical interface is modern and intuitive: the large 7-inch TFT display with 1024 × 600 resolution makes navigation clear and enjoyable, and the ability to display images or album artwork enhances the listening experience by combining sound and visuals. Control is possible via the front panel, remote control, web interface, or the free Novatron Music-X NEO app for iOS and Android devices, offering full management of playback and settings.
