The Yamaha KX-500 is a single-compartment stereo cassette deck produced in the mid-1980s. It features three separate heads for erase, record, and playback functions. This configuration allows real-time monitoring during recording and ensures more accurate audio quality compared to two-head models.

The tape transport mechanism uses a direct-drive motor, designed to provide greater stability and long-term durability. The KX-500 supports all major tape types (Normal, Chrome, and Metal) and includes a manual bias adjustment to optimize recording according to the specific characteristics of the tape used.

Dolby B and Dolby C noise reduction systems are included, useful for minimizing background noise in low-volume recordings or dynamic audio sources. The front panel features LED level meters and manual controls for all main functions.

Standard stereo RCA input and output connectors are located on the rear panel, while a headphone output is available on the front. The design reflects the typical hi-fi aesthetic of the era, with a solid build and mechanical push-button interface.

The KX-500 is suitable for both playback of pre-recorded tapes and home recording, including use in digitizing analog cassette archives.
