The TOPPING D30 Pro is a powerful and compact balanced DAC, designed to deliver high-level performance in a solid and compact format. Its digital-to-analog conversion stage is based on four Cirrus Logic CS43198 chips, allowing it to support sampling rates up to 32-bit/384 kHz PCM and DSD256, ensuring precise playback with extremely low distortion, minimal THD+N, and remarkable dynamic range. The use of four chips, instead of the conventional one or two, provides stereo output with greater channel separation and lower noise, improving both measured and perceived sound quality.

The USB connection of the D30 Pro relies on an eight-core XMOS XU208 chip, supporting high-resolution files up to 32-bit/384 kHz PCM and DSD256, with a custom Thesycon driver for optimal performance. Additional connectivity includes USB-B, Toslink optical, and coaxial inputs, while analog outputs feature both stereo RCA single-ended and XLR balanced. The DAC is primarily designed as a converter but also offers a preamplifier mode with variable output, useful for connecting directly to a power amplifier.

Internally, the design is meticulously crafted: an Altera PLC manages the clock signal, while eight independent LDO regulators provide clean and stable power to the audio circuitry. The chassis is made of thick aluminum, ensuring robustness and build quality. The front panel features a large, bright display with easily readable orange digits and a clickable knob for input selection, menu navigation, and volume adjustment. All main functions can also be controlled via the included remote, which allows adjustment of display brightness, auto-off, digital filters, and output mode.

Sonically, the D30 Pro delivers deep, full-bodied bass with solid and warm low notes capable of keeping up with fast rhythmic passages. The midrange is clear and present, slightly emphasizing higher frequencies, providing rich detail and texture. The treble is extended and crisp, creating a sense of air and space around instruments, though the brightness can give a slight dryness to vocals and instruments. The soundstage is wide and convincing, with well-separated instruments and ample space, impressive for a DAC at this price point. Dynamics and energy are somewhat relaxed; attacks and transients are clean but not overly aggressive, ideal for softer music genres, while rock or high-energy electronic music may feel less impactful.

The TOPPING D30 Pro represents a balanced and innovative offering in the mid-range DAC market, combining solid construction, high-quality components, and excellent performance in many areas, delivering a very good price-to-performance ratio.
