The Reimyo DAP-777 is a digital-to-analogue converter representing the second series of the original DAP-777. It retains the same model number and a substantially unchanged exterior design, while introducing a series of internal modifications affecting the signal-processing section, resonance-control system and power supply. The design draws on Reimyo's experience with the CDP-777 player and uses JVC 20-bit K2 processing technology, developed for CD reproduction according to the Red Book standard.

Compared with the first series, the DAP-777 features a redesigned circuit board intended to simplify and shorten the signal path. The internal construction also uses transformers and wiring manufactured to dedicated specifications, while the various signal paths are separated to limit interference, noise and distortion. Conversion is based on the JVC 20-bit K2 processor, also used in the CDP-777, while the design incorporates resonance-control solutions developed by Harmonix.

One of the main changes introduced in the second series concerns the mechanical control system. The DAP-777 uses new Harmonix tuning feet, of the same type adopted on the CDP-777, together with more extensive internal tuning using Harmonix devices. These modifications complement the redesigned circuit board and are intended to influence the mechanical behaviour of the chassis and components during the conversion process.

The power cord is also changed compared with the first series: the second-series model is supplied with a 1.5-metre X-DC-SM power cord, replacing the previous 1-metre cable. The unit's weight also increases by approximately 450 grams, reaching about 5.2 kg, while the exterior design and model number remain unchanged. The internal modifications are therefore substantial despite the absence of significant visible changes to the exterior.

The DAP-777 is designed to convert digital signals from CD players, DAT machines and other sources compatible with the supported PCM formats. The rear panel features four digital inputs, with AES/EBU, BNC, coaxial and optical connections, while analogue outputs are available in both balanced and unbalanced configurations. A ground terminal and a phase switch for reversing the polarity of the analogue signal are also provided.

The front panel retains a simple layout, with the power switch, selector for the four digital inputs and corresponding indicator LEDs. Additional LEDs indicate Lock status, error conditions and emphasis, while further indicators display the detected sampling frequency of 32, 44.1 or 48 kHz. Signal handling is therefore focused on PCM reproduction of the digital formats used by CD and DAT, with no support for DVD-Audio or SACD.

The internal construction is arranged to keep the various signal paths separate and minimise interference between the different sections. The chassis retains a low-profile design, with dimensions that allow it to fit on a standard equipment rack. The external appearance remains understated, while the internal construction accommodates the conversion circuitry, power supply and resonance-control systems.

The second series of the DAP-777 therefore differs from the previous version mainly through its redesigned circuit board, shorter signal path, new Harmonix tuning feet, more extensive use of resonance-control devices and 1.5-metre X-DC-SM power cord. The unit retains the same model number, the same overall exterior design and compatibility with the PCM digital sources supported by the original design.
