The Pathos Endorphin is the first CD player developed by the renowned Italian manufacturer Pathos Acoustics. It immediately stands out thanks to its unconventional design, featuring an almost sculptural presence. Its distinctive chassis architecture combines premium materials with original styling solutions, resulting in a component that perfectly blends elegance, personality, and refined craftsmanship.
The exceptionally low-profile construction is built around a robust metal chassis topped by a thick black acrylic panel, reinforced by a cast aluminum structure that enhances the rigidity of the entire assembly. At the front, two substantial aluminum cylinders serve both as support pillars and feet, while the player rests on three adjustable spikes that allow precise leveling for maximum stability.
The disc is loaded from the top using a classic top-loading mechanism. The CD is placed directly onto the spindle of the Philips Pro-2 transport and then covered by an elegant aluminum lid incorporating the disc-locking system. This solution not only enhances the player's distinctive appearance but also contributes to structural rigidity and reading accuracy. A discreet retractable display preserves the clean lines of the upper panel, while the small chrome transport buttons further emphasize the minimalist design philosophy.
The supplied remote control follows the same design language, being crafted from black acrylic with an elegant and understated appearance. On the rear panel, both RCA and balanced XLR analog outputs are provided, reflecting the player's fully balanced architecture, alongside coaxial and optical Toslink digital outputs. A detachable power cord offers greater installation flexibility.
The entire electronic circuitry is built on a single circuit board centered around the Philips Pro-2 transport mechanism, which is mounted on an isolated suspension system using solid aluminum supports while retaining Philips' original suspension design. A centrally positioned toroidal transformer feeds twelve independent power supply sections, each dedicated to a specific stage of the player—from the transport and digital converter to the analog circuitry and tube supply—ensuring excellent power isolation and optimized energy distribution.
Digital conversion is handled by the Cirrus Logic CS4396 24-bit/192 kHz DAC, a respected multi-bit sigma-delta design known for its outstanding dynamic performance. The analog output stage employs a pair of Sovtek 6H30 vacuum tubes operating in pure Class A without negative feedback, a hallmark of the Pathos Endorphin that perfectly reflects the Italian company's design philosophy. High-quality metal-film precision resistors and polypropylene capacitors are used throughout the analog stage, demonstrating the meticulous attention devoted to every detail of the signal path.
Since its introduction, the Pathos Endorphin has attracted considerable interest from both audiophiles and the international specialist press, earning praise for its originality, build quality, and sophisticated engineering solutions. Its unmistakable styling, premium transport mechanism, refined tube output stage, and carefully engineered electronic architecture make it one of the most representative products ever created by Pathos Acoustics.
Completing the package is an elegant wooden presentation case featuring the company's embossed logo, further emphasizing the product's exclusivity and artisanal character.
