The Nordost QBASE QB8 is a power distribution unit designed to provide linear AC distribution and centralized grounding for the system. Its design uses a star-ground topology, in which the grounds of the connected components are routed to a central grounding point, with the aim of maintaining a low-impedance power path.

The circuit does not use in-line filtering or active circuitry, thereby avoiding the insertion of filtering elements into the AC power path. One of the output sockets is identified as the primary earth connection and serves as the reference point for the star-ground topology. The connection configuration establishes a specific hierarchy among the connected components, giving priority to the system’s primary sources.

The sockets are mounted on a dedicated frame and integrated into an aluminum structure with machined end caps. The construction of the enclosure and internal printed circuit board also contributes to the overall structure of the unit: the PCB is used instead of point-to-point wiring and is integrated into the mechanical construction according to a dedicated design.

The QBASE QB8 features eight output sockets and incorporates a dedicated fuse for overcurrent protection of the power circuit, helping to prevent overheating and potential damage to the system.

Its compact design allows the distributor to be positioned behind a hi-fi rack or wall-mounted. The QBASE QB8 can also serve as the basis for a modular power distribution system, which can be expanded with other Nordost devices designed for power-line management and optimization.
