The Stax SR-L500 MK2 is an open-back electrostatic earspeaker belonging to the Lambda series, designed to deliver sound reproduction characterized by high transparency, fast transient response and natural tonal balance. Compared to the previous model, it introduces a series of technical refinements that improve reproduction accuracy, wearing comfort and everyday usability, while maintaining the construction philosophy that distinguishes Stax electrostatic systems.

Unlike traditional headphones based on dynamic transducers, the electrostatic system uses an extremely thin electrically charged diaphragm positioned between two perforated stators. This configuration allows the diaphragm to move with exceptional speed and precision, minimizing moving mass and providing an extremely fast transient response, low distortion and a reproduction rich in detail and micro-information.

The SR-L500 MK2 features a new-generation diaphragm with optimized bias voltage, developed to provide a wider frequency response and improved linearity compared to the previous generation. The result is a balanced and coherent reproduction, capable of naturally conveying the nuances of the recording and creating a wide and precise soundstage.

The new ear pad design introduces an angled geometry that improves the positioning of the diaphragm in relation to the ear, bringing the listening perspective closer to that achieved with studio monitor systems. This solution enhances the perception of depth and spatiality, contributing to a more realistic and engaging reproduction.

The MK2 structure adopts a new aluminum ear cup holder designed to increase rigidity and mechanical stability. Its slightly curved shape provides a more natural fit, improving the contact of the pads with the ears and also contributing to the optimization of low-frequency response, an important aspect in open-back systems.

Another improvement concerns the connection system, which introduces a detachable cable directly at the ear cups. This solution simplifies maintenance and makes everyday handling of the earspeaker more practical. The cable uses 6-strand parallel low-capacitance HiFC conductors, made from copper with small amounts of titanium added to improve both signal transmission characteristics and flexibility during use.

The Stax SR-L500 MK2 uses a 5-pin Pro Bias connector, compatible with current Stax driver amplifiers, allowing pairing with dedicated electronics such as the SRM-270S, SRM-400S, SRM-500T and SRM-700T. Proper power supply through a dedicated electrostatic driver amplifier allows the transducer to fully express its characteristics and achieve the performance intended by the design.
