In-ear headphones designed by George Cardas through a four-year research and development process, with particular attention to the interaction between the human auditory system and the acoustic behavior of earphones. The design uses a single 11 mm dynamic driver and adopts a structure intended to achieve a balance between efficiency, linearity and naturalness in music reproduction.

The two earpieces feature bodies machined from solid brass billets, subsequently copper-plated and treated with a transparent finish to limit oxidation. The Golden Spiral Curved shape incorporates the proportions of the Golden Ratio and is designed to interact with the shape of the ear and the auditory system, particularly the geometry of the cochlea and eardrum.

The dynamic driver uses a neodymium magnet and is manufactured with components machined from metal bar stock according to proprietary specifications. The drivers are individually selected and hand-matched in pairs to maintain consistent characteristics between the two channels.

The cable is the Cardas Clear Light Headphone cable, a miniature version of the Clear cable, manufactured with proprietary Cardas copper conductors and Matched Propagation technology. The construction uses four 25.5 AWG conductors selected to provide uniform signal propagation. Connection is provided by a 3.5 mm stereo TRS connector with gold-plated contact surfaces and a 90-degree connector body.

The supplied accessories include silicone ear tips with different designs, which can be used to adjust the low-frequency response, and a foam ear tip designed to provide greater isolation from external noise. Correct positioning of the earpieces inside the ear canal plays an important role in the overall performance: orienting the acoustic outlet toward the front of the head helps maintain a fuller low-frequency response and a more balanced reproduction.

The 110 dB sensitivity allows the EM 5813 to be driven directly by portable devices such as smartphones and media players, without necessarily requiring an additional headphone amplifier. The 32-ohm impedance facilitates use with sources offering limited output power, while the specified 20 dB isolation helps reduce the perception of ambient noise.

In listening, the EM 5813 is characterized by a linear response and precise reproduction of the various components of the musical program. The midrange maintains good definition of individual instruments, while the soundstage allows the position of sound sources to be identified with a good degree of precision, even in complex orchestral recordings.

The extended frequency response and ability to follow dynamic variations in the signal also make the headphones suitable for pop and rock reproduction, with an articulate low-frequency range and good transient response. The overall approach prioritizes precision, tonal balance and continuity of reproduction, making the headphones suitable both for home listening and portable use.
