The Nd9 cartridge represents the culmination of decades of expertise in cartridge and cantilever design, offering the finest moving magnet cartridge ever produced by the brand. The design team developed a Boron cantilever paired with a Fine Line stylus, based on the reference Aphelion 2 moving-coil cartridge, applied for the first time in the Nd9. The Boron cantilever combines exceptional rigidity with minimal mass, allowing ultra-fast response and unparalleled playback precision. The Nd9 cartridge is also available as a factory-fitted option on the Planar 8 turntable. Each cartridge is meticulously handmade by highly skilled technicians. The stylus uses the most advanced Fine Line nude diamond profile, bonded to the Boron cantilever to ensure maximum musical detail retrieval. The artificial monocrystalline diamond has extremely small radii, just 3 µm horizontally and 30 µm vertically, allowing the cartridge to immediately adapt to the smallest imperfections of the vinyl and extract exceptional levels of detail. The generator geometry is entirely new and perfectly symmetrical, ensuring highly accurate channel balance.

The Nd9 is designed with an optimized pole gap to provide superior linearity and reduce cross-talk, creating a much wider soundstage than previous models. The miniaturized parallel coils, wound in-house with 38-micron wire and 1275 turns, produce a low-inductance, low-impedance generator, significantly improving high-frequency response. The Nd range is supplied in fully recyclable packaging, reflecting the brand’s commitment to sustainability.

Nd Magnet technology, typically used in Moving Coil designs, makes the Nd9 the first moving magnet cartridge to utilize an N55 Neodymium magnet, the most powerful commercially available, enabling performance beyond standard magnet designs. The Boron cantilever and Fine Line stylus ensure extremely precise tracking and exceptional detail retrieval from the vinyl surface. To connect the Nd magnet to the Boron cantilever, an ultra-fine connecting tube was developed in collaboration with a renowned watchmaker, with differing diameters at each end. The lightness and rigidity of Boron allow rapid response to record surface variations and accurate motion transmission with minimal distortion.

The unique Rega pivot system improves performance by eliminating the mechanical joint between the stylus and the main body, enhancing tracking ability and stylus stability. In case of wear or damage, the cartridge can be returned to a Rega dealer for a full rebuild, which includes a new cantilever, stylus, and pivot pad, tested to the same standard as a new cartridge and offered at a reduced price, equivalent to the cost of a replacement stylus from other manufacturers.
