At the heart of this cartridge are coils made from ultra-pure 6N copper (99.9999% purity), a technical upgrade that ensures more precise and detailed signal transmission compared to the standard version. The internal impedance has been reduced to 14 ohms — down from 40 ohms in the DL-103 — to optimize compatibility with modern active phono stages, which typically feature input impedances around 100 ohms. This electrical refinement allows the DL-103R to perform with greater balance and naturalness in contemporary systems, without necessarily requiring highly specific step-up transformers, while still remaining compatible with vintage setups through dedicated accessories.

Mechanically, the cartridge features a 0.02 mm conical stylus mounted on a stiff and accurate cantilever, with compliance suitable for medium to high mass tonearms. To fully realize its potential, it should be paired with a tonearm with an effective mass between 12 and 22 grams, ensuring a resonance frequency between 8 and 11 Hz. Use with very low mass arms is not recommended, as it could compromise both stability and dynamic response.
