AUDIO TECHNICA AT-VM750XSH

The Audio-Technica AT-VM750xSH is a dual moving magnet (MM) cartridge belonging to the VMx series. It features a dual-magnet system, with the magnets positioned to correspond to the left and right channels of the stereo record groove. This configuration closely follows the operating principle of the cutting head used to produce vinyl masters, providing good channel separation and an extended frequency response, while contributing to detailed reproduction and a wide soundstage.

The cartridge’s generator features a paratoroidal coil construction, consisting of two stacked PCUHD coils per channel. This design improves electromagnetic performance, while the reduced number of coil turns helps enhance transient response, allowing accurate reproduction of the dynamic variations in the musical signal.

The stylus assembly features a nude Shibata stylus mounted on a solid boron cantilever. The low weight and high rigidity of this material allow information retrieved from the record groove to be transmitted rapidly, improving tracking accuracy, particularly during passages with pronounced dynamic variations. The die-cast aluminium cartridge body also helps minimise unwanted vibrations and resonance.

The cartridge body incorporates threaded inserts, allowing direct attachment to the headshell using two screws, without the need for nuts. The stylus guard also features a distinctive V-shaped cutout, designed to make it easier to identify the stylus position when lowering it onto a record.

The interchangeable stylus system allows the use of various compatible replacement styli from the AT-VMN and VMN series, making it possible to modify the playback configuration and experiment with different sonic characteristics without replacing the entire cartridge.
