The Van Den Hul The D-102 III Hybrid is a carefully engineered interconnect cable designed to provide excellent signal transmission in audio and audio-video systems. Developed through decades of technical refinement, this hybrid version represents an advanced evolution of the original D-102 series, introduced in 1982. Its construction combines carefully selected materials with proprietary technologies to deliver high performance, long-term reliability and sonic neutrality.

The cable features a flexible, yellow-orange HULLIFLEX® outer jacket that is robust and resistant to ageing, providing protection even in demanding environmental conditions. Inside, two stranded central conductors, each consisting of 40 strands of matched-crystal OFC (Oxygen-Free Copper), are coated with a thick layer of high-purity silver and further enhanced with a Linear Structured Carbon® (LSC) film. This layer plays an important role in signal transmission by creating an electrical bridge on a microscopic scale and converting external magnetic interference into useful signal, thereby reducing distortion and improving resolution and sonic detail.

Each conductor is individually insulated with expanded polyethylene and identified by its white or brown colour, making installation easier. The conductors are protected by a treated synthetic-fibre filler that effectively limits moisture absorption and contributes to the cable’s mechanical stability. The highly effective triple shielding consists of two helical layers, each made of 180 high-density silver-plated copper wires, with an additional LSC-impregnated tape positioned between them. This combination provides effective protection against electromagnetic and radio-frequency interference.

The D-102 III Hybrid is designed to deliver optimal performance in both balanced and unbalanced configurations. In balanced mode, the typical impedance is 110 ohms, while the capacitance between the two conductors is just 37 pF per metre. These values support accurate signal transmission over long distances and in high-impedance applications, with minimal losses and phase shifts. For unbalanced use, the recommended configuration connects the shield to ground only at the source end, while one of the internal conductors serves as the signal return, providing a cleaner and more effective wiring arrangement. The cable has an overall diameter of 7.25 mm and is available in a 1-metre length.
