The Nordost SPM Reference is an interconnect cable designed to provide high signal propagation speed, transmission precision and consistency across the entire audio frequency range. Its flat construction differs from conventional cable designs and reflects Nordost’s engineering approach, which focuses on controlling the cable’s electrical parameters.

The conductors are made from ultra-high-purity silver-plated copper with a rectangular cross-section, arranged in parallel with carefully controlled spacing. The design incorporates sixteen conductors in total, eight for each signal polarity, insulated with continuously extruded Teflon. This geometry is intended to achieve particularly low capacitance and inductance, while the 110 Ω impedance reflects a specific design choice related to signal propagation.

According to Nordost’s published specifications, the SPM Reference series achieves a signal propagation speed of 95% of the speed of light, a figure higher than that commonly quoted for many high-end audio cables. The design therefore places particular emphasis on signal transmission and the management of propagation times across different frequencies.

In the RCA version, the connectors feature a spring-loaded movable outer sleeve that covers the centre contact when the cable is disconnected and establishes the ground connection before the other contacts during insertion.

The translucent lavender finish reveals the silver-plated conductors, while the heat-shrink tubing at the ends distinguishes the left and right channels. The SPM Reference series represents one of Nordost’s flagship product lines and is intended for high-end hi-fi systems, with particular attention to conductor geometry, insulation and signal propagation.
