MM/MC phono preamplifier developed by the Italian manufacturer for the integration of turntables and different types of cartridges into high-end Hi-Fi systems. The design places particular emphasis on connection versatility and noise reduction, two fundamental aspects in the management of the analog signal generated by the cartridge.

The circuit allows the gain and input impedance to be adjusted according to the characteristics of the cartridge being used. Gain can be selected over seven levels, from 40 to 60 dB, while the input impedance can be adjusted across a wide range, from approximately 30 Ohms up to 100 kOhms. This configuration allows the Phonostage to be used with MM, high-output MC and low-output MC cartridges, optimizing their electrical matching.

The phono section is designed to maintain low noise levels and provide good channel separation. The specified frequency response extends from 5 Hz to 90 kHz at -3 dB, while the signal-to-noise ratio exceeds 80 dB and channel separation exceeds 100 dB. The output provides a maximum level of 8.5 Vrms and has an impedance of less than 50 Ohms.

Connections are made via RCA connectors, with one stereo input and one stereo output. The aluminum chassis features the characteristic machined front panel of North Star Design products and a compact construction, with a width of 43.5 cm. The Phonostage is therefore a dedicated solution for analog playback, designed to provide extensive adjustment possibilities without the need for external configurations.
