The Viola Symphony is a stereo power amplifier delivering 200 watts per channel, designed to provide outstanding performance while incorporating many of the advanced technologies developed for the flagship Bravo model. Its oversized choke-filter power supply ensures effortless, controlled sound reproduction without compression, even during demanding musical passages and when driving difficult speaker loads. Deep, authoritative bass response is combined with exceptional control, while meticulous attention to every aspect of the design results in precise stereo imaging and remarkable retrieval of musical detail.
The amplifier features a fully balanced signal path throughout all gain stages, ensuring excellent immunity to external noise and preserving signal purity. The physical and electrical layout of the circuitry has been carefully optimized to maximize interference rejection, while dedicated design measures effectively manage overload and clipping conditions. A sophisticated soft-clipping circuit minimizes signal degradation under extreme operating conditions, helping to maintain sound quality at all times.
Careful bandwidth control allows the Symphony to maintain the same level of accuracy with both low-level and high-amplitude signals, avoiding slew-rate limitations. To achieve exceptional time-domain performance, the amplifier incorporates a dedicated delay network that ensures all signal components pass through the amplifier with identical timing characteristics. The result is an output signal that faithfully mirrors the original input, only amplified in magnitude.
Special attention has been devoted to minimizing low-frequency distortion, where much of the energy in musical signals is concentrated. The output stage operates with a relatively high bias current, improving transparency and low-level resolution. Internally, ultra-pure copper bus bars optimize power distribution and eliminate distortions often associated with conventional wiring methods. Film capacitors are employed on individual circuit boards to provide high-frequency bypassing and ensure consistently low power-supply impedance throughout the amplifier. This approach enables the Symphony to deliver substantial power reserves while preserving the finest nuances of the musical signal.
At the heart of the design is a low-noise choke-filter power supply, a solution that generates significantly lower electromagnetic interference than conventional amplifier power supplies. This topology also substantially reduces intermodulation distortion, further enhancing overall sonic performance. Unlike many switching power supplies, it avoids high-frequency noise while reducing stress on power-supply components, contributing to increased reliability and long-term durability.
For applications requiring even greater power, the Symphony can be configured in bridged mode by combining both channels into a single monaural amplifier. In this configuration, each unit is capable of delivering 400 watts into 8 ohms and up to 800 watts into 4 ohms, providing exceptional power reserves for demanding loudspeaker systems.
Operational safety is ensured by a sophisticated protection system that continuously monitors amplifier performance. The circuitry automatically intervenes in the presence of DC at the output, excessive current demand, abnormal mains voltage conditions, or excessive internal temperatures, protecting both the amplifier and connected loudspeakers. Dedicated transformer fuses, an inrush-current limiting circuit, and an advanced controlled-clipping system further enhance reliability and help prevent damage to high-frequency drivers caused by clipping-induced harmonics.
The mechanical construction reflects the same uncompromising design philosophy. The chassis is built from high-mass aluminum panels machined to extremely tight tolerances, ensuring exceptional rigidity, durability, and premium finish quality. The front panel is milled from a solid aluminum billet, while the side panels are formed from extruded aluminum sections that are finely brushed and anodized. Together, these elements create an exceptionally robust and elegant structure designed to complement both the aesthetic appeal and performance of the amplifier.
