The Plinius SA‑250 Mk1 is the first incarnation of one of the most significant power amplifiers produced by Plinius, launched at the beginning of production in 1992 and built until the mid-1990s as the flagship model of the New Zealand company. It is designed to deliver high performance, with particular attention to sound quality and the ability to drive demanding speakers with wide dynamics and control, qualities that helped establish the brand’s international reputation in the early years after its introduction.

Unlike later revisions, the Mk1 is distinguished by its single power transformer construction and internal design using high-quality wiring for inputs and outputs, a feature often highlighted by enthusiasts for the character of its sound presentation. The internal architecture is built around a “U”-shaped chassis, typical of Plinius’s early models from that period, designed to ensure good airflow for cooling and effective placement of critical components.

Operation remains in line with the company’s tradition, with a circuit aimed at reproducing the musical signal as faithfully as possible, employing technologies that minimize distortion and maximize signal-to-noise ratio.
