The McIntosh MC275 MKIV is a stereo tube power amplifier designed for high-end hi-fi enthusiasts. Delivering 75 watts RMS per channel into 4, 8, or 16 ohms, it maintains extremely low total harmonic distortion, under 0.5% from 250 mW up to full power, dropping to 0.25% at 1 kHz, ensuring clear and faithful sound reproduction. Its frequency response ranges from 20 Hz to 20 kHz with ±0.2 dB accuracy, a signal-to-noise ratio of 105 dB, and a dynamic range of 1.2 dB, providing detailed and natural musical playback.
The output stage uses four KT88 tubes, while the preamplification section relies on three 12AX7A and four 12AT7 tubes, incorporating McIntosh’s patented Unity Coupled circuit to deliver optimal power regardless of speaker impedance. Each channel features a balanced XLR input and an unbalanced RCA input with 0.45 V sensitivity, allowing versatile, high-quality connections to various sources.
The MC275 MKIV combines elegance and durability: the black metal chassis harmonizes with a polished stainless-steel front panel, featuring the McIntosh logo and illuminated tubes for a distinctive visual appeal. When paired with quality speakers, the amplifier delivers an extremely natural sound, free of electronic artifacts, with neutral tonal balance and clarity that reveals every detail, from a pianist’s subtle nuances to the finest orchestral textures.
The MC275 excels at conveying the sensation of a live concert, balancing detail and warmth. Midrange frequencies are vivid and present, bass is deep and controlled without being overwhelming, and treble is clear without harshness.
While rooted in classic tube tradition, the MC275 is a modern design, extending vintage principles with contemporary performance. Its sonic neutrality makes it a versatile amplifier, suitable for both intimate, detailed recordings and large-scale orchestral works, without artificially emphasizing any element. Ease of use is immediate: simply connect and start listening, with no long break-in period required, offering an engaging and authentic musical experience that satisfies even the most demanding listeners.
