The Jeff Rowland Concentra is an integrated amplifier that represents a significant milestone in the brand’s history. It combines in a single unit the expertise of Rowland preamplifiers and power amplifiers, offering a compact yet sophisticated solution. The power supply is derived from the company’s more powerful models and is paired with an output section reminiscent of Rowland’s renowned power amplifiers, ensuring precise and stable signal management. Despite a nominal power rating of around 100 watts, the Concentra delivers a sense of energy and control far beyond what the numbers on paper might suggest.

Inside, it features a balance control inherited from the preamplifier design, allowing adjustment of sound distribution between the two channels via the remote control, even though this function is not indicated on the front panel. To reset the balance to the central position, simply hold down the “Mute” button for a few seconds.

The original Concentra did not include a standby or sleep mode, so it tended to consume a significant amount of power even when not in use unless unplugged, which caused long startup times each time it was powered on. Later, an upgrade option introduced a standby mode, allowing the unit to remain cool and reduce power consumption when idle; in this mode, the power transistors shut off and the amplifier consumes only a few watts.

The Concentra’s design is elegant and minimalist, with a red display that is a distinctive feature of its initial generation. The internal electronics reflect Jeff Rowland’s philosophy of combining technical precision with natural musicality, delivering powerful, controlled, and engaging sound in any hi-fi environment.
